We bring you the latest from Dive Index, the collaboration between Will Thomas, Daughter Darling's Natalie Walker and Merz (aka Conrad Lambert) with the debut of the lyric visual for the sonic landscapes of "Pristine Wilderness". A video created by Alex Seth and Ziyi Xu; lyrics emerge from the ether as percolating electo-rhythms are interwoven with windy chords and dreamy vocal melds that roll like tumbleweeds in an enchanted desert setting. Featured off the forthcoming Waving At Airplanes album; Dive Index further explores our connection with our surroundings, environments, the known and the intrigue of the unknown and strange.

"Pristine Wilderness" is the sound of a vision quest commencing out in the great wide yonder. A song set out in the expanses of the Mojave desert in California, the Dive Index crew collect strings of words that are tied to the arid realms where the roadrunners, tarantulas and desperadoes roam in vast worlds of natural splendor. Reiterations of co-existing peacefully are stitched into the song's mind-mesmerizing mix as the drum and bass components are the driving engine at work. The arrangement is structured like an ecstatic experience where the audience witnesses a work of grand visions that celebrates our collective place in an eclectic world of limitless beauty. "Pristine Wilderness" is an invitation to see, hear, feel and sense the world like a shaman venturing into the great outdoors in search of the organic threads of the natural world from which all material (and maybe even immaterial) existence stems.

Dive Index’s Will and Merz’s Conrad Lambert discussed thoughts on the inception of “Pristine Wilderness”:

Will:

Conrad Lambert (Merz) relocated to Joshua Tree a couple years ago and has been inspired by the rugged beauty of his surroundings. “Pristine Wilderness” highlights some of the unique flora and fauna that populates the Mojave desert.

Merz:

When I first moved out to California’s Mojave Desert, I was struck by how present the wildlife and plant life were. It’s the first environment I’ve lived in where I genuinely feel I am co-existing in the animal’s and plant’s world. As opposed to the animals and plants being a sideshow and decoration for a human-dominant environment.

I can imagine only life on the ocean compares to this life in the desert.

Dive Index's Waving At Airplanes will be available May 29 via Neutral Music.
