The Eyedress origin story is something of cult lore. Based currently out of Los Angeles; Bee Eyes' guitarist Idris Vicuña began his story in Makati, Philippines then Phoenix, Arizona and later San Clemente before moving to Manila to further develop a plethora of musical aspirations in motion. From King Krule collaborations (via the Edgar the Breathtaker pseudonym), the solo releases Hearing Colors, Shapeshifter, Manila Ice, Moisture, Dark Web DMT, Sensitive G and a barrage of recent singles — Eyedress presents a first look at the Brvinfreeze skate video style for the minimalist DIY pop majesty of “Jealous”.

Vicuña takes the audience on a skateboarding tour of Los Angeles that spans from suburbia to Venice Beach tour traps. From beach-side busking, sidewalk kick-flips, Ferris wheel fancies and a whole lotta timeless throwback skate styles captured with copious amounts of palm trees in the background; Eydress illustrates the importance of solace in spoken and slightly sung verses on top of fun, scuzzy and frenetic guitars. Idris wears the aesthetic of classic counter-culture vanguards proudly on his sleeve as nods to punk, underground and esoteric twee pop icons can be detected in the murky analog mix that is celebrated like a low rent Girl/Chocolate skate odyssey that Spike Jonze wishes he directed. “Jealous” jets right into the zeitgeist of a tumultuous and toxic relationship where Vicuña lyrically presents their side of the exchange in a testy collapse of communication. The rumbling rhythm guitars underscore the tense energy at work as Eyedress exhibits the urgency of making a hasty escape from a situation that is no good for all involved parties. Retreating from the stalemate and headaches — Eyedress finds catharsis on the edges of the pacific in a world of carnival rides, concrete slabs and a self-styled society of skateboarding sovereignty.

Idris Vicuña of Eyedress shared some exclusive insights about the inception for both the single and visual for the new single:

“Jealous” is a song I made earlier this year when I was trying not to be possessive. It was also one of the first songs I recorded on my new Japanese guitar (Teisco) I was really excited when I first made it because I haven’t had much time to just sit down and come up with a new riff, but that one came to me so easily. It was recorded in my bedroom in Silverlake. The video was filmed by director Brvinfreeze. We filmed on a nice sunny day in Venice Beach. Basically went out with my bandmate Zahara and skateboarder friend Kane The Menace and just filmed a bunch of clips of us skating around Venice beach along with shots of me and Zahara busking and performing the song live for passers by.
