VIDEO | Marlaena Moore, "I Miss You"
Featured off the upcoming album Pay Attention Be Amazed — Edmonton, AB artist Marlaena Moore presents a look at the video for “I Miss You” directed by Dylan Rhys Howard. The visual plays upon the inner narratives and emotions unseen that play out behind and beyond the glitz and glamour of stage lamps and ambient lighting. Moore catalogs the minutiae and movements of the day while continuously returning to the song title's statement of passionate longing.
The video for "I Miss You" is set in an enormous sound stage studio where Marlaena is in the middle of a photo shoot. In between the shutter clicks of the aperture, Moore breaks out in a song and dance where the entire industrial space becomes a main stage. Describing the blurring of hours, days and weeks and all the ennui in between; a cigarette break presents a mysterious red rotary phone where the wailing horn from a nearby train that is heard throughout the visual increases its volume. As the song progresses, Marlaena turns up the level of urgent desire as the randomly assorted lights in the studio shine in rhythmic time to underscore the level of yearning for someone where everything else becomes as ephemeral as cigarette ash or chaff in the breeze by comparison. "I Miss You" is a statement of love that shines brighter with a luster more beguiling and beautiful than ten thousand fashion shoots or a million posh media photo ops.
Marlaena shared the following thoughts on the visual for “I Miss You”:
As long as the idea of having my own music video has been a thing, all I’ve wanted to do is — dance. I am obsessed with MGM musicals, Judy Garland, classic Hollywood in general. I wanted to do my own musical number to capture the all consuming yearning of missing someone so desperately that it completely takes hold of you.
