Art assembled from works of light hold the power to illuminate and inspire in the most curious and magnificent of manners and ways. From visuals, both static and in motion to conceptual installation pieces to aural paintings that speak and connect to the spirit and senses through the most beguiling and beautiful channels of reception; these works of wonder ignite and lighten our consciousness to see, feel, hear and experience new pathways built out of creative visions by visionary authors and artists. These aesthetics of uncanny luminance cast a light on the realities we know, new worlds we have never before witnessed and in some cases conjure entirely new existences created by the artist’s own instruments, brushes and tools that take us to entirely new places. Its the age old conundrum of art imitating life to the aspects of life that imitates the influential fashions, fancies and styles of the arts in question.

Indicative of all the aforementioned and much more is Vancouver’s beloved nu-Balearic art school phenomenon Terrace who present the debut of the solar beam kissed sensations of “Under the Sun”. Featured off what we are told is their final album Elation slated for this coming September, the venerable Simon Lock sets out one more time (this time solo) under the guise of the Terrace moniker before embarking on dreamier aesthetic schemes to follow TBD in 2022. For the past decade, Terrace has graced audiences in the know with elevated dance floor ready anthems that are suited for both posh club ballrooms, dingy dive spaces to the humble and constrictive shoebox confines of studio apartment spaces. As Lock sets sights on new future azure stratospheres of even more opulent artistic opportunities and more; the testament of Terrace rides off into the sunset with the dials set for the heart of that fiery ball of energy that grants life to all living organisms here on this scrappy blue dot planet we all call home.

“Under the Sun” kicks off with a tropical bouquet of electric rhythm chords rife with escapist flights in pursuit of fantastic voyages beyond the wildest extents of imagination. Terrace lets go of all the cooped up angst from the prohibitive restrictions and days of lockdowns and quarantine that runs free with a romantic air of embracing all that is uplifting and amazing in our shared existence. The progressions of “Under the Sun” gallop and skip with a kind of carefree abandon that makes even the most dreary of city street scenes of boarded up brick and mortars feel like floral fields and lush forests full of fresh starts, new beginnings and places of great opportunities of bliss and inclusive abundance brighter than our wildest collective dreams. Terrace further edifies their anything and everything is possible aesthetic and makes that sentiment even greater and tangible than ever before with thoughts of all that is yet to come. These enthusiastic big, bold dreams are expressed with jubilation for the entire world to hear with a message that just maybe this small third rock from the sun world truly can be ours to care for and truly adore after all. Simon sings out a celebration dedicated to everything we enjoy, hold near and dear and love that can be found under the ultraviolet, infrared, incandescent auspices of our galaxy’s radiating star of nuclear fusion.

Terrace’s Simon Lock provided some exclusive thoughts on the new single “Under the Sun” and the upcoming album Elation:

“Under The Sun”

The very idea of being stuck at home with no alternative for over a year while the world nosedives into a pandemic is not just the makings of a Hollywood thriller, but it became our reality. And for many of us that love the ability to travel and change our scenery, this had the potential to become a nightmare. The only way out of this mindset is to dream about one day traveling and returning to normal life and to be grateful for all the things that brought us pleasure before the world closed. Grateful for travel, experience, the unknown, being with friends, finding new romance. As life is returning to normal we can now go and plan to get back to our lives and truly be grateful for all the things that we love “Under The Sun”.

Elation

Elation will be out in September 2021, this is to be the final record for Terrace. I wrote this record on my own during pandemic and chose to perform all the parts and vocals and to proceed with this record as a solo act. The touring line up will be sorted soon, but as this is the last instalment, I wanted to ride this pony back to the stable myself.

Terrace’s single “Under the Sun” is available now everywhere with the upcoming album Elation available later this fall in September.
