PREMIERE | The Zoltars, "Successful as They Come"
On the heels of last year’s Telling Stories that we featured in the previous fall — Austin’s the Zoltars prepare the release of Mystery Kids for Rock Tumbler Records sharing the first listen to the the slacker psych march “Successful as They Come”. The quartet of Jared, Justin, Miranda and Donald have made their most realized work to date in a sprawling 13 track full-length with a sound to rival the size of Texas itself. The group dives into songs of learned experience, songs of trials, errors, confusions and clever consciousness expanding arrangements.
“Successful as They Come” begins the record with a cautionary tale that is delivered like a time honored allegorical slice of traditional wisdom. The Zoltars structure the song with a certain sing-song sway that recalls a garage rock Gaelic exegesis of ancient and plenty argued over scripture along with their corresponding cults of conformity. And thus begins a record that catapults ahead with a song that teaches the importance and imperatives about not taking others for granted, before exploring a vast assembly of well thought out home penned pop symphonies to the mysterious universes of what tomorrow may bring.
The band shared the following sentiments of gratitude that inspired the song:
As far as "Successful as They Come", I wrote it to tell a story about this man taking someone close to him for granted and how once it was too late, only then did he realize how important that person was to him. I guess, especially with everything going on in 2020, I'm trying to be thankful for the things in my life that I am lucky to have, especially my relationships with family and close friends.
Mystery Kids will be available October 1 via Rock Tumbler Records.
