As DC pop duo Coven Tree readies their split with Tadzio for release this August via BLIGHT. Records, Alexia Kauffman and Hannah Burris deliver a track that deals with the urgent and pressing matters as it pertains to all life on earth with the debut of the meditative wonder “No Land”. Burris of Teething Veils, Tadzio, Anna Connolly, Hana Racecar, School and Kauffman from The Torches, E.D. Sedgwick, Teething Veils, Soft Complex curate an electric assembly of charged ambient elements that offer an exhibition that exemplifies the perils at hand happening now in our current modern era.

“No Land” takes the listener beyond the embattled landscape stretches of where the proverbial colloquialism of no man’s land is to be found. The mournful string to synth assembly that Coven Tree curates shines a light on the pressing unsustainable climate change woes to the alarming matter of migrants being locked away in border patrol sanctioned concentration camps, replete with human cages. The track is a lamentation for the world that we know, a call to action and arms in the face of our own contrived threats to humankind — both socially/civilly and our connection/disconnection to our global ecologies. Clocking in at just slightly over five minutes; Alexia and Hannah delivery an instrumental that rises from the throes of embattled perdition to a higher ground that offers the sentiment of solution from our current civic structures that disregards the rights and environments that are integral to humanity. The strings of “No Land” spill notes of tears like the undocumented migrants that remains imprisoned indefinitely at the border, as the electro rhythm structure’s regressive metronome percussion patterns allude toward an organic earth dissolving into the ether. “No Land” is a last ditch plea to potentially save our humanity from its own hubris in a globe that pits neighbor against neighbor and operates on account of the hubris of corporate capitalist interest. Coven Tree demolishes (and abolishes) the paradigms that stand as road blocks to reclaiming turf with a sound that strives to heal and reverse the adverse affects that our current weird world has to contend with daily.

Coven Tree’s Alexia Kauffman and Hannah Burris shared thoughts on how the current events of migrant displacement and other planetary quagmires inspired “No Land”:

Living in DC we find that politics and the news play an important role in how we view the world, and inform our music. One topic that weighs heavily on our minds and hearts is the reprehensible governmental response to the immigrant crisis at the southern US border and throughout the country. The indefinite detention of children, or any human, for no crime, in what are for all intents and purposes unregulated prisons, is sickening. We believe no human is illegal, and children should not be imprisoned. We believe that humans seeking asylum in our country should be treated humanely, with care and kindness and compassion, not as subhumans.

“No Land” is about displacement. Not having a home, a land, a place to rest. Unease. It relates to the immigrant crisis — people fleeing their homelands in search of a new one and being put in a horrible limbo. It also relates to the millions who will be displaced in the future by climate change. There is a glimmer of hope — like a light held out in the dark. It is the search — seeking a safe harbor and not yet finding it.

The upcoming Coven Tree/Tadzio split will be available August 23 via BLIGHT. Records.
