PREMIERE | Howless, "Levels"

Perception is a curious thing. Viewpoints ground us in reality, the present, provide insights to the past, wisdom and wonder pertaining to the future and perhaps even beyond these framed scopes of thought. From the arts of literature, visuals, sounds, motions and more we can entertain perspectives that stretch beyond the static schools of the known and chronicled social sciences. The imagination driven arena of intuition entertains the bodies of psychic knowledge and employs the mechanics of metaphysics that surveys the possibilities and potential for the supernatural and its correlating effects. While much of this hypotheses are regaled to whimsical notions of the ephemeral and perhaps even superstitious; the ingenuity of expressive arts has the power to transcend the conventional timelines to illustrate lifetimes and dimensions of magical realism to enamor even the most doubtful perspectives from the most hardened bespectacled skeptics.

Opening the doors to these realms of insight and ecstatic illuminations is Howless, heralding from Mexico City and announcing their debut album To Repel Ghosts via Static Blooms Records. Comprised of Sara Soto, Karla Ramírez, Dominique Sánchez and Mauricio Tinajero; the quartet ponders everything from the paranormal, concepts of reincarnation and various ideas that expand beyond the unorthodox systems of perspective to gain better understanding of the self and the surrounding world(s). The aesthetics involved suavely scan through the frequencies and fabrics of both the material and immaterial alike with a style that seeks the epistemological source of déjà vu and other assorted sentiments and states of being that are both familiar and new (often felt and experienced all at the same time). Howless alters the linear conceits of time and trades in the tired anachronistic constructs of comparative/creative emulations and imitations for something that is ferociously fashioned in a sensibility both timeless and in a class of its very own.

Presenting the debut of “Levels”, accompanied by VHS discotheque-chic visuals — Howless delicately speeds through the valence rings of consciousness at a velocity that blends and blurs the parallels of different lives, realities and feelings. "Levels" emerges like an apparition from the ether, exhibiting the energy and emotions like an exquisite ghost from another time and mind. Howeless arranges triumphant rhythms that rollick on the verge of discovery, raptured in a warmth full of exuberant sensations as the analog scanline streaked visuals curate a club night event from an alternate all-but-forgotten era. "Levels" works in ways greater than the zig-zagging trajectories of a time machine trope, but rather an interdimensional artifice devoted to better understanding the roots and origins of all the feelings, trails of thought lines, perspectives and memories that feel fuzzy, vague and opaque in nature. Howless breaks through the layers that divide our perception to reveal a new multidimensional plane of luminescent pop art that emanates as the source of our wildest extents of imagination.

The band Howless present reflections of artistic visions and the levels of "Levels":

This first submission from Howless comes around the idea of a constant discovery of reality. A perspective, where levels of consciousness are understood by knowledge acquired from one or more lifetimes. The rise of consciousness that goes beyond ego, the physical realm and those ephemeral moments experienced by us all, aim to the final level; to detach, to let oneself go without any remorse from all lifetimes.

Timeless passages built in every melody, a strident rhythm in its own way and vitalist in its own intention. Just like the introspective/melancholic verses hosted in “Levels” that contain all the necessary reflections to ask ourselves, what do we actually perceive? Where are we?
