Through the dreary days of winter we anxiously await the first signs of spring. While feeling restless and stir crazy in the places we call home, the similes of nature sprouting to greet the solstice takes over the imagination. Likening ourselves to a flower that blooms with the photosynthesis from the sun's rays, or a bird chirping its first song of the new season for all living things to hear and heed as a new era is welcomed by the entirety of the world. And now with the dawning of the new primavera that brings its showers, its new light, longer days and floral arrays; we look for the associative arts that will resound with this brand new epoch. The sights that will ignite the mind, the sounds that will provide rhythms and harmonies that elevate the spirit and the flowers that bring bouquets that enrapture the entirety of our being.
Delivering the ultimate sound of spring 2024 is Detroit’s breakout act The Doozers with the debut of “5/3” that arrives not a day too late. The quartet of Sean Donnelly, Kyle Garland, Parker Grissom, and Melanie Kelley combine forces to create a sound that borrows tropes from all the big festival stage acts from the past 25 years (with trace elements of new romantic flair). Taken from their upcoming summer slated album that follows their 2019 EP, cheekily titled Full Length Album, The Doozers bring a sharp style that splashes like a carefree cannonball plunge off a hi-dive board. The cleverly blended electrified elements together bop brilliantly like the heavenly headliner you have never heard of that enamors all in attendance on the big top amphitheater bandshell. The Doozers arrive like the underdog that undercuts the hype and suddenly appears on every big showcase flier that floods your timeline feed.
“5/3” is a track that sounds right at home as a needle drop in the latest Sofia Coppola film. The fourpiece stuns with a very studied execution as each note and progression is perfectly timed with a casual vocal delivery that is uttered with a lackadaisical, daydreaming desire for better and brighter days. The Doozers search for signs of certainty in uncertain times with the chorus refrain of I’ll be so sure as each note strikes with the calculated precision of absolute cool. And while The Doozers sport a certain suave that is reminiscent of many of your favorite former mixtape staples and pop royalty standbys — the Metro Detroit group abides by their own alchemy that feels fresh, alive and new. “5/3” is the song you will have on repeat long after the spring break soirées have come and gone as you brainstorm a roundtrip with your besties on a budget to partake in the joie de vivre and carpe diem that makes life worthwhile and wonderful.

The band shared the following insights on the inception of the new single, “5/3”:
It started with Sean all alone with a polyrhythmic beat on the organelle, then once the whole band was introduced, it blossomed on its own without much discussion. The song is a declaration of confidence, a reassurance of spring through the final moments of winter.
The Doozers’s debut album will arrive later this summer.
