Hannah Jadagu's inspired world of time best wasted
Rising NYC-based tunesmith Hannah Jadagu has emerged with a new canon of perfect pop to provide a sense of comfort, calm and care for turbulent times. The release of the What Is Going On? EP earlier this year via Sub Pop presented a song cycle of relatable overtures, tones, cadences and more that shared in the overwhelming barrage of unrelenting confusion that defines our current era. Opening the record with the cathedral quaking "My Bones", Jadagu paints sentimental brush sweeps of twilight touched thought trails of pensive "Sundown" narratives of days turned to dusk, turning back the clocks to the blog-wave brilliance of 2011 channeled brightly for the 2020s with the sun trails of thought streams that comprise "Think Too Much". The title track further explores those inner inquisitive reflection planes of personal and universal reckoning in a world that defies logic and gravity, as “Bleep Bloop” leaves the audience with found sounds of joy, introspection and familial voice mail messages of care that instills a melancholy sentimental mélange of subdued kindness of the most intimate order.
Which brings us to the artist’s new autumnal single “All My Time is Wasted”, a track that second guesses all of life’s burgeoning endeavors, shifts in momentum and more. Expressing the restless thought trains and states of mind, Hannah searches for that place of meaning and solace amid academia, work, play and all the existential items that are found in between the bustle and fray. “Wasted” takes a time out from the busy nature of overloaded itineraries and the demanding schedules to wonder what all the efforts and energy is really for. Jadagu questions these paths and more in a world that can be often less than supportive and kind, bemoaning the fears that perhaps all this self-application is all for naught. Presenting the following items of jubilation and fascination, Hannah introduces the new song with the following insights:
“All My Time Is Wasted” is a song I began writing last year during my first semester in college. The hook came to me after feeling very inadequate, despite the new adjustments, hard work, and risks I had been taking. Recently I finished writing it (the song) this summer post my first year at school, new job, and new opportunities. It’s a feeling I always feel!
Items of inspiration, wonder and the enrichment of wasted time with Hannah Jadagu
ASMR
ASMR is one of my favorite things that has come out of this universe. I listen to and watch ASMR anytime I need to relax, take a nap and almost every night that I want to have a good sleep. Getting tingles and being soothed by a stranger was once something that I thought I should hide, but ever since learning to embrace it, I’ve been trying to put everyone on for years now.
Pants
Pants are such a great form of self expression. I’ve never been a fan of wearing skirts and would rather not wear shorts unless necessary. Finding a cool pair of pants makes me feel so empowered and swag. I think they can really make or break an outfit, so I always take pride in any kind of pants I wear/buy. I love pants so much.
AirPods
I literally cannot go a day without using my airpods. I often have to remind myself to take them out because I wear them for multiple hours, everyday of the week. It’s gotten so bad that whenever my AirPods aren’t in, I’m super strict about the audio I’m listening to. For example, I don’t like to watch YouTube videos on Instagram stories without AirPods. I also completely lose it when they are lost and will not leave my house without them. Its definitely a top 3 reason for why I’m late to a function.
Journaling/Puzzles
Recently, because I’ve been on tour, I’ve been trying to journal all my ideas, thoughts and experiences while on the road. I find it to be extremely therapeutic and calming. It’s a great way to check-in with myself and reflect on the opportunity I’ve been given/ the unique circumstance I’m in. That being said, some drives are super long and I’ve found that once done with journaling, I enjoy attempting to conquer the puzzles that my friend Greta gave me. Both journaling and puzzles are a good way to be left alone, yet positively busy.
Spotify Listening Sessions
Another thing that's been really cool to have on tour are Spotify Listening Sessions. Getting to share music around in the car, via listening sessions is actually really cool and always leads to some sort of bonding, laughing, or overall understanding of each other’s taste. Being on the road means lots of time for sharing music with each other and constantly adding things to the queue.
